Free Date Ideas
FreshMalt is a great resource for free date ideas, providing you fun things to do for any occasion. We built our repository of plans for singles, couples, students and the married crew, so that everyone can relax and enjoy themselves without having to worry about doing too much research.
Take a look at some of our free date ideas below. That’s just some general things to do that won’t cost you anything, but to really see the magic of the site, search or browse for exactly what you’re looking for and create a plan for your night or day.
New York City is the only lucky city to have FreshMalt as of now, but we’re looking to expand in the future. Let us know where you live and we’ll do our best to cover your city down the road.
- Make sidewalk chalk drawings. Perhaps one of the cheapest thrills, an evening of drawing on sidewalks costs only a bucket of chalk. Draw your names, pictures of each other or messages to airplanes with the giant sticks of chalk.
- Check out open mike night. Lesser-known singers, musicians, comics, poets, spoken-word artists and other performers flock to open mike nights for experience and exposure. If you’re a fledgling or closet artist yourself, sign up for a timeslot. Otherwise, sit back and enjoy the art.
- Go for a jog. If you’re both committed to fitness, make workout dates. Having a running buddy will encourage you to keep at it, and enjoying the company will give you plenty of motivation. It’s also a challenge for the slower runner, who will work to keep up.
- Fly a kite. Visit a hobby store and pick out your kite of choice (beware, some can be pretty pricey) and head to the park. You may find a group of fellow kite fliers, but be careful not to tangle your strings, particularly with the more serious kite enthusiasts who may become annoyed!
- Lace up your rollerblades. Has it been a while since you’ve strapped on any kind of wheels? Dust off your old skates and roll around the neighborhood, but make sure you put on plenty of pads, especially if it’s been a few years.
- Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. Just longer than a mile, the iconic Brooklyn Bridge can be crossed in less than a half-hour, but the walk from Manhattan to Brooklyn (or vice versa) won’t be something you’ll soon forget. The majestic bridge, completed in 1883, is free to cross, and the romanticism of old New York is hard to resist.
