At this point, FreshMalt only covers New York City. We know you might live in a different part of the world and we’re looking to expand. Let us know where you live and we’ll try to get the site over to you in the future.
- Assemble an indoor picnic. Especially if it’s cold outside, spread a blanket on the floor and prepare picnic foods like sandwiches and salads. Light some candles, put on a CD (find one of nature sounds if you want to be really specific) and relax in the comfort of your own, homemade park.
- Have a barbecue. If you don’t have a grill, head to a park or recreational area that does, and grill up some meat. This activity is also particularly good for group dates, as you can cook up as much chicken or pork as you’d like. Add some potato salad and coleslaw, and you’ve got a classic meal.
- See an old movie. Summer blockbusters or horror flicks can be fun for dates, especially if you don’t know what you’ve got in common yet, but many parks programs and historic theaters play classic Hollywood films. Grab some takeout for the park or nosh on concession stand grub.
- To be or not to be. Your date loves anything literary, dramatic, and philosophical. Why not check out Shakespeare in the Park or a poetry or author reading at a coffeehouse. Dazzle each other with all your erudite knowledge of the classics and beyond.
- Go to the opera. Class yourselves up for the night and pretend to be 18th century nobility as you see a musical masterpiece. If you’re new to the opera scene, you may want to brush up on the story a bit. Bring along those opera glasses, but leave the towering wigs at home.
- Enjoy Central Park Summerstage. Each summer, the City Parks Foundation organizes a series of free performances in the park, in which musicians, authors, dance acts and films serve as the main event. Have your lighter or cell phone at the ready for those poignant ballads.
